Lord Mayor’s Show

This year, the City of London Corporation enabled us to take part in the Lord Mayor’s Show with 45 young people, all of whom faced severe income deprivation and many of whom were at risk of exclusion.  The float theme was ‘A Traveller’s History’, and participants created their own characters, masks and costumes, learning professional mask making skills as part of the process. 

The show was televised on BBC1 to an audience of approximately two million viewers, and the participating young people felt very excited to be taking part in something with largescale national recognition – one participant summed it up when they said, ‘We never get to take part in something like this. When I saw myself on the video in front of all those people I just felt fantastic!’
