After-school clubs

We run after-school drama clubs at 8 primary schools in particularly economically deprived areas, providing sustainable low cost (and in many cases free) access to ongoing performing arts provision for participating children.  On average, the schools where we run these clubs have 37% of pupils who are dependent on someone who claims income support, and 68% from Black, Asian, minority ethnic or refugee communities (Ofsted).

This means that many of the children attending these clubs experience social or economic disadvantage in some form, whether it is because they speak English as a second language, come from families experiencing economic deprivation, or are at risk of exclusion for other reasons.

At each school on average, 17 children attend each week, making a total of 136 participating children attending our clubs each week.

Recent evaluations from parents, teachers and participants included the following observations on changes facilitated by the clubs:

‘Jade has become more able to speak up and stand up for herself’
(Class teacher, Jubilee Primary School)

‘Kevin expresses himself more clearly and confidently’
(Parent, Ashmount School)

‘It makes me feel happy about coming to school on Wednesdays’
(Yr 5 participant)
